SHE works hard for the money.....

Well this year was to be my "GOLDEN YEAR"...
According to Doug, this was to be my golden year, with staying home with the kids and not working. BUT-- My friend Lisa R. told me about a great opportunity/job that was open at the kids' school. The Lunch cashier was leaving and a replacement is needed. I thought about it ... going back and forth with what to do. My main concern was over who would be able to take care of Alex from 11:30 - 1:30. 2 hours really is not that long, but to be gone everyday-- I'm not sure he would like it. THANKFULLY, my mother in law (bless her heart) stepped up to the challenge and agreed to pick him up from school and keep him. Needless to say, ALEX is ecstatic that he gets to spend time with NANA, and I'm just as happy bringing in some extra Christmas cash! So, last Friday I filled out the online application with the school, had an interview on Wednesday, hired on Wednesday, started my first day on Thursday and was handed the "keys" today to make me the official "cashier".

How hard can it be???? I mean, come on, a cashier in the cafeteria... it's a cush job!!!! Let me just say, that by the time the breakfast kids came through the line and they were handing out hall passes-- I believe I had a little bit of sweat on my for head.-- and ya know, it could be because I'm over weight...or maybe a little bit of both. The first 2 weeks is going to be a little bit of a transition as I start to recognize faces with names. I also feel like I should take a beginning Spanish class so I can pronounce the little Mexican kids' names. Let me tell ya, some of those kids are the CUTEST little things- so tiny and they speak so soft.
Hopefully I can post in a few weeks that the job has turned into a cush job! Right now, it is getting high marks for 2 great benefits.... a free lunch for me ( hahahaha) and being home with the kids when they are! OH I just thought of another benefit... I don't have to wear a hair net or serve the lunches.. since that is the case...I wonder if I'm still considered a "lunch lady". :)

Could not be more proud.....

As Nick's football season comes to a close ( just a 6th grade game to go...) it was brought to our attention that Nick, along with fellow teamate Ben P- were nominated by their coaches for the Warsaw Young Tiger, David Fribley Award. I'm not sure how many kids were nominated but it is my understanding the winner will not be announced until Saturday Nov 1st. Even if Nick is not the winner of this award... we, as parents, could not be more proud. He is a special young man who continues to grow and amaze us with his abilities and talents. A description of the David Fribley award (how I understand it:)
It shall be the purpose of the athletes of Young Tiger Football & Cheerleading to promote and uphold a positive attitude, and to develop good sportsmanship by example. To be champions off the field and support good relations with the community, between teams and squads during competition. Alway's keeping in mind the Warsaw tradition of Son, Daughter, Student and Athlete, Forged by those who had come before.

Big Crumbs-- easy money saver

Every little bit helps, every snowflake gets caught! During the holiday season, I find myself selling and buying more things online. Be it from ebay, Amazon, Old Navy, Gap, Toys R us..etc.. I'm not big for malls during the holiday season and sometimes find it easier to shop from home while sipping a Hot chocolate and listening to Christmas music. While shopping, I use a couple of different cash back tools. I use UPromise, ebates and Big Crumbs. I haven't used ebates as much lately because the percentage that I get back from Big Crumbs is so much better. The money/rebate gets put directly into my Paypal account and it makes it easier to shop using a paypal check out. If you shop or sell online, sign up with this link and start saving too!

Walmart for less than $26.00

After scouring the Meijer ad yesterday and looking at my coupons, I came to the conclusion that this was not a good week to hit Ft. Wayne. So this morning I made a couple of stops (kmart, CVS and Walmart). I went to CVS because they had the Kleenex w/lotion on sale for 89cents- I had 40 cent coupons so I went looking for 4 boxes-- they only had 1 box! I was looking to score free tissues with the help of an 1.98 extra care buck-- OH well, I paid .59 for 1 box of tissue and left. I then headed to Walmart where I had all coupons in hand and picked up the following:

3 boxes of Kleenex (pricematch CVS to .89, use 40 cent coupons= 1.50
7 bxs of General mills cereal (price match to Meijer 1.80 box, had 3.00 coupons= 6.80

4 pkgs of Ortega taco seasoning .58 each, had 75/2 coupons so .68 total for 4

and lastly I bought a pkg of Reeses pieces for Alex's Kindergarten class- They hare having a Halloween day and I get to bring in stuff for decorating sugar cookies- those should be good on top.
All in all my total at Walmart before coupons: $59.87 after coupons: $23.50, add tax and I walked out for $25.68

Now- I also went to Kmart-- I swear sometimes I hate going there too..... anyway-
For 7.00 I got:
3 bags of Licorice (with movie points on them)
1 glade oil air freshener
2 Max factor eyeliners
2 Max factor Lip sticks/gloss
1 4 pack del monte oranges
and a gallon of OVERPRICED 3.76 milk!
The makeup was buy one get one free PLUS I had 2 coupons, 1 for buy one get one free and one for 2.00 off any eye,
I had a free coupon for the air freshener and I had 12.00 in catalina coupons from my previous trip to kmart from glade. I shouldn't have spent that much at kmart, but my lipsticks were 2 different prices and she took only 8.99 off from one of my coupons leaving me to pay 2.00 for 2 lipsticks but I did get another 4.00 catalina from the glade purchase-- I might go back for more makeup-- I need to skim through my coupons! Owens Sneak Peak

Ok- the ad comes out tonight, but here is a sneak peak... There were 75cent coupons for Jacks Pizza that came out this past weekend... if you have 4 coupons, you can get 4 pizza's for: 7.00. Not the best deal, but for less than 2.00 a piece- its a decent Saturday lunch for the kiddos-- throw in a 79 cent Sunkist 2-liter and voila... for 3.00 I fed all three boys!-- much cheaper than McDonalds! The Chicken noodle soup and tomato soup is a decent deal if you have the coupons too.
Here is the link--

Stockpile for 21.38

Ran to Owen' last night for cat food and since I had to go there, I thought I would get a few things for my stockpile. I ended up buying 39 items, using 23 coupons and saving 73% on my bill. My total before any Owens sale prices and coupons was: $78.11 - my out of pocket after sale prices and coupons: $ 21.38.
Here's what I got:

8 bottles of Sunny D - reduced sugar- juice
6 Jars of Prego Spaghetti Sauce
3 boxes of Toaster Strudels
3 cans of Cinnamon rolls
6 cans of Campbells Tomato soup
and 1 bag of cat food.

Now remeber, that this was for my pantry/stockpile and it all will come in handy for the next 4-6 weeks. Can anyone say 'OLE? I can't wait to make crockpot Faijtas with the left over chicken that I bought earlier in the week!! YUM.
This weeks Indy star had some pretty good coupons- there is a 50 cent coupon on Nesquick that will double and Owens has the ready serve Nesquick on sale for 88cents- Free milk for lunch boxes and overage!!! I might have to buy some extra coupons on line for that one! Plus don't forget that you can buy Cottonelle TP at Owen's for NADA with your 50 cent coupon that came out 2 weeks ago-- again, I might buy some more of those coupons for free TP. Have fun shopping this week!

Feeding our family of 5 for $46.74 this week!

Ok, I did not make it to Meijer today as planned. I just did'nt feel the need to waste the gas since, Meijer was the only store I would visit. So instead I went to Walmart and had them price match the items from the Meijer ad. They obviously could not price match the 50% off items- but that's ok, I'm stocked up on Lysol cleaning products and I really don't uses spray 'n wash all that much. Anyway- did you see my picture.... let me tell you what I got....
1 Bag of Popcorn chicken (no coupon pd 6.32)

Chili with salad (Tomato juice and beans from stock pile)
Grilled cheese sandwiches with soup and vegetable (Soup from stockpile)
Popcorn chicken for kids, cesaer salad w/popcorn chix for me
BBQ shredded chicken sandwiches w/potatoes
Homemade chicken potpie (Need to get some bisquick- :( )
Hot Dogs, salad and oranges

That's a lot of dinners for $47.00-- and no worries on Milk or cereal, I'm still stocked from my last trip at Meijer when all of the Kelloggs cereal, cereal straws, eggo waffles were on sale. As for Milk,-- I have ECb and RR from Cvs and Walgreens to get us milk throughout the next week.

I just wanted to say thanks to my sweet husband who faithfully runs to the gas station every Sunday and buys 2 newspapers for me (just for the coupons), to my mother and father in-law who save their Saturday and Sunday Ads/coupons for me and for my friends who pass on coupons to me that they will not use.
Now I need to plan out my strategy for next Wednesday's trip to Owens for all of the good Campbell deals on soup, spaghetti sauce, bologna, Old el Paso products and Fruit snacks- might be a stock pile week next week.

Have fun shopping and let me know if you need help finding a coupon.

I have the windows open, a pumpkin spiced candle buring, I got out my sweatshirts and now for the shocker...... I can still BUTTON my jeans from last year!!!!! Come on, that is shocking news. I have not been the model of fitness nor diet for the past 16 months- so to be able to still button jeans from last year.....Now, I will say that they probably don't look as nice as last year....at least they still fit. LOL.

No DNC for me.

Ok- for the last two nights at 10pm I have watched the Democratic National Convention- and to say the least, I've had enough "hoopla" with Obama. I am not a fan of politics, I dont think I have the brain for it. There's too much talk, I get lost in the many translations of all of the policies - non policies and gossip. I will roll with the punches with whomever is elected our next president. I have no specific canadidate to endorse. We all have our opinions, we all have people we like and dislike - what works for one, does not always work for the other.
ANYWAY-- since I decided not to watch the DNC tonight, I decided to take a look at the Owens/kroger ad... LOL-- I really need to find a new hobby--
I was disapointed in the ad tonight - I really thought there would be some great Labor Day savings, but I only found a few things to pass along.

Cottonelle toilet paper .99 cents
coupon from 8/24 paper .50 doubled= FREE

French's Mustard .99 cents
50cent coupon from Franksredhot and French's should again make product: free

Powerade's .50 each - there were some Powerade coupons out about a month ago for 1.00 off of 1 , plus Owens sent out a mailer that had some powerade coupons in it too. I will be able to get 8 powerades for 1.00 after coupons.

Kroger Potato chips .99
24 Pack of Kroger water 2.99
tomato Juice .99
Sealtest gallon of milk 2.99...... Now CVS has Dean's milk for 2.99 a gallon everyday- and there are some .50 coupons that you can use too.

If anyone goes to the Blueberry Festival this weekend, have fun and eat an elephant ear for me!!!

New tool in my cleaning bucket.

It's an Action Scrubber for my tub and shower. I love it for wiping away soap scum. It is a scrubber with an easy extruded foam handle and it comes with texture pads that already come pre-loaded with concentrated scubbing bubbles cleanser. Just add a little water and wipe/scrub away. Landon has already cleaned all 3 bathtubs and wants to do more. The perfect chore for my 7 seven year old. After cleaning rinse off the foam and toss the pad in the trash and put the handle under the sink until next time. There is a starter kit that contains the handle and four cleaning pads and a storage tub. After that all you have to purchase is the cleansing pad refills - those come in a package of 6 and usually run around 3.00. Since this is a fairly new product, I'm sure that CVS or Walgreens will be running a sale. I have some 2.00 coupons if you need one and if you go to www.scrubbingbubbles.com I believe there are even more coupons. You could basically try this product for free or pennies. I like it for the convenience and the fact that I will get help scrubbing the tubs from Landon! He is quite the little helper!

And their off..........

The big yellow school bus stopped this morning and loaded up our babies. Having a 6th grader, 2nd grader and kindergardner is a new experience. For the last few years, we have always had someone at home to play with. With my house being silent this morning, I am at a loss. I KNOW that there are things that need to be done around here (CLEANING) but part of me wants to just sit in the silence and frankly--- ENJOY!

MMMMM... Yummy.......

We have been eating the best sweet corn lately. Fresh corn from "THE FARM" at only 3.75 a dozen. It is so worth the drive across town to pick it up along with their green beans and fresh onions just pulled from the ground!
Our neighbor Gene has been suppling us with unlimited zucchini, yellow squash and cucumbers. PLUS- the boys and I picked 13 pounds of blueberries, froze them and thanks to my good friend DeDe- we've been eating frozen blueberries for a snack- especially when it is so blasted hot. They are so easy to pop in your mouth and munch away. I love summer veggies and fruits.

FREE KELLLOGGS TUE AND WED ******

School is about to start and I am stocking up on Eggos, cereal, cookies and rice krispie treats. Yesterday's paper came with a Kelloggs insert that had 1.00/2 coupons and a MIR for 10.00 when you spent 10.00. *** MIR starts Tuesday 8-5 SO- since Owen's still has the Mega event going on till Wed night here is a plan of "attack":

10 eggo's =15.00 -2/$1.00 Q = 10.00. MIR $10.00 FREE

10 Keebler cookies =$15.00 -2/$1.00 Q = $10.00 MIR $10.00 FREE

10 Rice Krispies Treats =$15.00 -2/$1.00 = $10.00 MIR $10.00 FREE

10 Boxes of Rice Krispie Cereal= $15.00 -2/1.00 = $10.00 MIR $10.00 FREE

These have to be purchased in groups of 10, on seperate transactions and I need 5 coupons of each group- of course I can mix and match-- Do I really need 10 packages of cookies-- NO, so I will probably mix and match. I broke down in like groups for simplicity. AND, of course it is only 1 rebate per household- but I think I can sweet talk some family, friends and neighbors into letting me use their address. We'll see. Even if I can't and I only get 1 MIR, I'll take free cereal and eggos for the kids anyday!

Catching up to do....

We have been a little busy the last week or so- but to recap.... Doug had the DARE state conference down in Fishers, IN so we packed up and headed that way. While Doug was in sessions, we headed to Super Target, the Mall, Connor Prairie and the boys swam at the hotel pool and hot tub. Thursday night was "family night" provided by DARE Indiana. We went to Head Pinz for a Pizza dinner and free unlimited bowling. It was a fun get together.
When we came home it was time to get ready for Landon and Alex's birthday party at the Joy Jungle. The boys had a great time with their friends and running around. I wish I could have made the party longer but I was already breaking the bank at the 2 hour rental. The following day, we headed to Ann Arbor to take Nick to Michigan's Baseball camp. We got him registered, met and talked with the head coach Rich Maloney. When Nick was getting his picture taken with Coach Maloney (and the BIG TEN Trophy) an assistant coach noticed Nick's shirt and asked if he was from Warsaw, IN.... This coach "did time" at Grace college as a baseball coach and still has some inlaws in the area. Coach Maloney also has friends from this area too... he also coached at Ball State. -- small world--. Nick had a great 3 days of camp and me and the other two hung out at my sisters for some relaxation. I went over to the Pottery Barn outlet, but was disapointed. Nothing really on sale- and nothing that I needed. I did however, stop at Just Julie's.. let's just say our credit card was smoking by the time I got done there and Doug got done at the M Den---hence another reason to have a garage sale tomorrow and Saturday... wish me luck.
I have pictures to post and video to play.. i just won't be to post until later.
Looking forward to a bright, sunny day and lots of money tomorrow... LOL!

It's 9:35 am, and I know where my kids are.....

They play hard and sleep hard during the summer. The only one that got up early was Landon and he is still in his underwear!! I love summer mornings.... Today is going to be a great day for the pool... no clouds in the sky, a balmy 85 degrees and a crystal clear pool to jump into!

Life is so good!!!!! Doug and I are truly BLESSED!

On the money side

Remember my post from June with CVS where I purchased the centrum cardio vitamins??? I got my rebate in the mail today-- PLUS I sold the vitamins in a garage sale for 2.00 . MONEY MAKER!! LOL.. just had to share.

Ah..... summer

Summer has been in full swing for quite a while in the Light household. We've played soccer & baseball, we've visited the zoo, we've made it to Michigan, we've gotten sunburns and mosquito bites, went on bike rides, gone fishing in ponds and creeks, we've made smores, we had our 4 th of July fireworks display, we've had firepit fires ( away from the house, of course!!) some of us (ME) managed to get poison ivy in the summer fun. What else is there to do you ask... well..... THERES:
Baseball camp - football practice (Doug's there tonight) - YMCA camp - DARE conferences, another garage sale ($$ woot-woot), more swiming to do, back to school shopping, back to school sign ups and maybe some more baseball games. It's hard to believe that on August 15th the kids should be back in school - my boys will be skipping the first day this year... they will be ON VACATION with Aunt Krista- while Doug and I are in San Antonio for DARE.
Alex and Landon are sharing a birthday party this year at the Joy Jungle. Both seem pretty excited. How did Alex get to be 5 so soon anyway???

Our Last Presby Preschooler

In the midst of our busy schedules these past few weeks.. I forgot to recognize one special graduation! Alex has graduated from preschool and is now officially registered to enter Kindergarten this fall. He's so ready to go onto a big school and become a Harrison Husky with his older brothers. Next year will be the only year that all three of our sons will be in the same school together. Alex has grown into quite the special little boy and we are so excited for him to be going to kindergarten. Not excited in the fact that he is growing up so fast, but excited because he is going to do so well and is going to have fun being a Husky.

I (heart) CVS too!

Made a trip to CVS yesterday- picked up the June monthly ECB book and purchased a few things that we needed. I had 3 transactions - I had it all planned out ahead of time... items circled on the flyer, coupons found and clipped, everything written down - line by line - Here's what I got....
Transaction #1
1 gallon of Milk 2.79 (Had a .55 coupon)
4 4pack of Double A batteries (Had 4 coupons 3.50 total)
2 9roll packs of toilet paper (yep- had 2 coupons .50)
Total 18.73 -- WAIT, I have 3 ECB totalling: 11.68, so my out of pocket was:
$9.22 (includes tax) and I received a 10.00 ECB to use on transaction number 2:

Transaction number 2:
2 packs of Wrigleys multi pack gum (on sale BOGO 2.49 1.00 coupon)
1 bottle of kids Listerine (3.49 had 1.00 coupon)
1 Brut Deodorant (3.19 NO COUPON- unbelievable, I know)
1 box CVS Bandages (1.99 no coupon, I know......)
1 box of Centrum Cardio vitamins (8.99 had a 3.00 coupon)
Total: 14.65 -- used the 10.00 ECB coupon from first tranasaction, brought my total out of pocket to: 4.65 +tax..... I received 8.49 in ECB AND-- AND-- AND-- I will get 8.99 back from Centrum because I had a mail in rebate!
On to transaction number 3:

4 2liters of Mountain dew (4 for 5.00 had a 2.00 coupon)
3 bags of Chex mix (on sale 1.00each had 3 /1.00 coupons)
2 bottles of Dawn (on sale for 1.00 each had 50 coupon)
1 box CVS bandages (1.99 - no coupon)
3 CVS sunscreen chapsticks (1.99 each)
1 CVS sunscreen stick for face (3.99 )
When I first went into CVS, I went to the kiosk and it printed out a 3.00 of 10.00 purchase of CVS items- hence the sunscreen) So-- the deal went down like this:
total before coupons: 21.95
after coupons: 13.45
ECB used: 10.78
total out of pocket: 2.67 AND I received 2.99 in ECB to use before July 1st. WAIT---- CVS had in their flyer that if you bought 4 2 liters of PEPSI products, you could mail in the reciept and upc for a REBATE of $5.00!
--- I only put 1 2liter in the pix- Doug confiscated the others and put them in the fridge--

It all ads up to: My initail out of pocket for the day: $16.56 (includes tax)
Rebates to be refunded to me: $13.99 - I will put that 13.99 back into my CVS envelope to replensh my CVS spending money- which by the way is not more than 20.00 for the month and trust me-- I ALWAYS have CHANGE!!!
AND - ECb I have yet to use from transactions: $8.49

I don't know which store I heart more-- Walgreens or CVS ....

June Already.

Wow- has it really been a month since I last posted? Time has flown these last few weeks. We have had some medical issues come up with Doug's Grandma and my dad, Doug
tried to kill his dad and myself, we've been sitting at ball parks and soccer fields, preschool graduation, keeping the house picked up for showings and of course, trying to get the kids in the house before 9pm on a school night. WE LOVE IT!
I can't wait for next Monday morning... I'll be able to get up, close the boys' bedroom doors, make a pot of coffee (add a little carmel sauce), turn on the today show and watch in peace. No bus to worry about- nobody's house to clean but my own,- no where to go.............. ahhhh sounds like a little slice of heaven.

Sorry for the yelling in the camera- some of it is me--BUT NOT ALL OF IT!

Nick 200

Run, Forest, RUNNNNNNNN

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

I wish I had taken my camera.

ARGG... Why is it, when I take my camera- there are no good opportunities for shots, and yet when I don't take my camera---- I NEED IT!
Landon scored 2 goals yesterday in his soccer game. Tonight, Nick had a great double (2rbi), right up the middle hit, that was sOOOOOO pretty. Maybe next time.

More than enough.

This little CVS trip cost me 6.00 OOP and I got 11.00 back in Extra care bucks and a free movie ticket. Needless to say, I have MORE THAN ENOUGH of the following:
Toothpaste
Handsoap
Shampoo
Deodorant
Facial Cleanser
Dish soap
Kids bodywash
Tootbrushes- and
Glade scented candles-airfreshners and plug-ins.

My goal now is only to buy these misc products when its either FREE or less than 50cents.

This trip to walgreens cost $26.00 BUT- my out of pocket was ZERO- because my walgreens gift card was refilled with $80.00 in rebates from last month AND- I will be submitting 16.00 of this order back to walgreens for part of April's rebate. I'm a little disapointed with myself- because after I left Walgreens and was talking to a friend about the trip (to compare notes, of course) I realized that I had a $6.00 Register reward coupon I forgot to use! Oh well, I'll just use it next week on the May free products!
This weekend I'm off to bag some CHEAP cereal and fiberone bars from Owen's - I may pick up a couple of Bertolli dinners to keep in the freezer as well-- for $2.49 (after coupon) it's a cheap meal for two!
It's been a busy week for us, with 3 showings, a soccer game, track practice, track meet, music class, baseball practice and tomorrow on the schedule: Baseball game, Soccer game and Doug has quiz bowl. It looks like Sunday, may be a good day to BAG SOME BARGAINS.

TRUE LEMON - try it, free

Ok, being the freebie hunter that I am- I came across an offer for TRUE LEMON samples. I did'nt know what it was, so I let it sit for awhile before I requested my sample. I only requested my sample after I read that for every sample they give out- the donate 10 packs to our Military Men and Women overseas. Let me just say-- YOU"VE GOTTA TRY IT! Add a packet of the lemon to a glass of sprite- yum... I put a packet of the lime in my diet cherry pepsi --double yum-it was like a cherry lime-aid. I haven't tried the orange yet. All of the flavors would be refreshing in a plain bottle of water too!
Here is the link:
http://truelemon.com/sample.html

Every time we get a request for free samples of True Lemon from a new customer, we will donate 10 packets of True Lemon to Operation Gratitude, a non-profit organization providing care packages to U.S. Troops.

It costs you nothing, It means so much to our service members. Make a little True Lemon go a long way. Our deployed troops will thank you for it.

You can also purchase these at Walgreens and I've seen all three flavors at Owens.

FUEGO.

Doug received a firepit this year for Christmas. We finally got the chance to break it out of the box and "fire" it up this past week over spring break. The first night was fun, sitting around, staring into the small flames that Doug and Nick kept fussing over. The second night was fun too - but we realized that when Doug was in boy scouts and they were learning how to make a fire -- DOUG WAS ABSENT THAT DAY!!!
Third day, Doug broke out the ol' Boy Scout handbook and "read" up on how to build the perfect fire. I opted out and stayed inside. 3 nights with stinky clothes and smokey hair was just too much.
Anyway, the fire is going good, the boys are having a good time. they were poking logs with sticks, sitting in their chairs and eventually getting tired. The fire starts to die down, boys come in, everyone starts getting in bed. Alex is so tired and he wants to lay down with me in my bed - that's fine. Doug will sleep on the bottom bunk in Alex and Landon's room. I'm watching a little T.V., listening to the wind outside- because there is a storm coming in... so they say.
Around 11:00 I turn out the lights and T.V. For some reason I can't sleep. I'm tossing- turning... then I look at my window blinds.
I see light flashes. Hmm-that's wierd I think. Someone must have gotten pulled over and the cop car lights are flashing against my blinds. So being the nosy Nelly that I am- I go and look out my bedroom window. I don't see anything. I go back to bed. Hmm--must be lightning in the distance from the storm.....but there is no thunder. So I get up, go into my bathroom and look out the southern window for this poor soul who got pulled over by a sherif's deputy- still nothing. So I proceed to climb into my bathtub and look out the East window - still no cop car. THEN I look down in the grassy area where the fire pit is..... I found my flashes. BUT it's not coming from the fire pit, it's coming from the woodpile on the grass that is 2 ft away from our house siding and wood deck. The wind had re-started a fire of a log that Doug TOOK OFF the fire pit, beause he thought it was "DONE".
I run towards the boy's bedroom, turn on the hallway lights and wake Doug up--- "Doug the grass is on fire, outside our bedroom window"....... Doug being the ball of fire that he is says: "Geez... us", like he's pissed or something. Anyway, he gets up, walks...(yes walks) to the sliding back door. I'm in the kitchen filling up 2 water pitchers to put out the flames. We go out, put out the fire- I tell him to put more water on it just to be safe. We come in and he says......
WHY do you have to be so dramatic!!
HELLOOOOOOO.... when the grass is burnt by the burning logs and there are dried bushes that are inches away- the wind is picking up and our house and deck are right there- I think that calls for a little urgency.
The point to my story is this-- There was a reason my husband did not become a fireman-- because the minute someone were to say:
The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire..........
Doug would say: We don't need no water, ..........
go ahead, you can finish the song.

Look at the head on this kid.

Yes, This is the LONGEST Nick's hair has ever been. Do you think that his dad is chomping at the bit to get the hair clippers out. It's funny, because you take for granted when their hair is so short, it still looks clean-- now that his hair is longer, I can tell when he hasn't washed it.
He's such a handsome guy -- even with "longer" hair.

It pays to check your receipt.

Ok- I went back to the grocery store. I forgot milk earlier and Doug wanted some Chips-a-hoy cookies for his late night snack. I of course sat at the table and wrote out my list, prices and what coupons I had. To say the least, I was not happy to be spending 2.00 on a bag of cookies I did NOT have a coupon for- but, I managed to find some other coupons to make up for the loss.
With a list, pen and wallet in hand, I made the trip. The store was not crowded and it was so easy to maneuver my cart without kids in tow. I found my gatorades, I found my excederin, I found cheese, paper towels and of course the infamous chips a hoy cookies. I followed my list to the T, without straying once. I get up to pay, total before coupons/owens card $65.00, I hand over my Owens card and coupons..... ONE of my excederin 2.00 coupons will not work-- not enough ink from my printer--argg... oh well. So my total at that point is $26.94. I pay, look at my receipt and look for my percentage saved: 62%. Not bad, I think to myself-- BUT I look a little closer and there are only 2 mega saver discounts! I turn my cart around, head to the customer service desk, I count my items on my receipt making sure I bought 30 and that all 30 were part of the sale. A very nice gentleman looks at me and says..."oh you must be having the same problem as her over there..." I said, " well, I thought that I bought everything per the paper and signs, but it did not give the extra $5.00 discount." He looks, he counts, asks to see my Owens card then proceeds to give me $5.00 cash! THANK YOU!! That extra just bumped up my savings to each item being .69cents. BUT- I forgot milk. And you can't have cookies without milk.
SO, hello Walgreens! I stopped into Walgreens, grabbed a gallon of milk and 4/12packs of Pepsi products. The milk was on sale for 2.89 and the pepsi was on sale 4 for $11.00. My total 14.66 w/tax -- BUT WAIT, shocker here-- I have COUPONS. :)
I have a Pepsi $2.00 coupon from a promo in January and I have a $9.00 register reward coupon from Walgreens that I got from purchasing my laundry detergent! Total after coupons $3.66. Wow, you say -- HANG ON-- I forgot to mention that since I bought 4 12 packs I receied ANOTHER register reward for 3.00 to use on a future purchase-- so it was like buying the milk and pop for .66 -
I hate to say it, but I think I get a coupon high from this stuff --- LOL :)
My wallet is fatter, my pantry is full and Life is so good!

All but 1

knock on wood, but so far I have been the only one not to see the flu bug this week. Alex is still fighting something as he just doesn't have the energy to do much. He only took 2 small bites of his pizza today at lunch and is right now lying down on the bottom bunk. Nick came home on Tuesday after track practice and also fell asleep for quite a while. Landon went back to school yesterday but is still has a cough-- he is going on 2 weeks with the cough. Doug had to cancel the Washington D.A.R.E. graduation on Tuesday as he did not feel well either-- It wasn't fair to those kids if he was sick-- he shakes their hands, give hugs, talks to parents-- if he were to be responsible for someone getting sick on spring break he would feel terrible. So it was in the kids' best interest to reschedule. Doug still does not feel the best and that is evident by him NOT going to the U of M football clinic that started today. He was supposed to leave this morning at 11am for Ann Arbor and return on Saturday afternoon. He still just does not feel well and would be staying with my brother and his family- he did not want those kids to get sick either. Especially Little Joe- his little body has the hardest time fighting off colds, infections and virus' in general.
So with that being said, its time for me to spray OUST yet again to make sure I'm getting all of those lingering germs. I do not want to be home in bed on my spring break, when I could be out and about in warm, balmy Warsaw!!

I went over my budget...

But it was for things that I needed.. like: Tomato Juice, fresh strawberries and an extra package of toilet paper. I did stick to my list (from previous post) and all total with my extras is spent $12.88. The cashier was so proud of me. She looked at my receipt and said, WOW - 80% that's the first time I have seen 80%. Of course, my next trip will not be that good, because I need to get Gatorade, more fresh fruit, fresh vegetables,Cheese, Milk and bread. I have no coupons for those.. ;( I bought 36 items for 12.88 which I believe to come out as .36 a piece.
How well did you do?

My shopping list.

So far, here is my shopping list for Owens (kroger) today...
4 French's mustards
2 Lipton sides
1 (10ct) excederin (great to have in the car)
5 bags of Goldfish crackers
5 boxes Toaster treats (kroger poptarts)
2 bags of Pretzels
1 Betty crocker cake mix
3 boxes of Betty crocker side potatoes
2 pouches of Betty crocker cookies
2 cans of Pillsbury breadsticks
1 can of Pillsbury grand sweet rolls
2 bags of Cheetos
3 pkgs of Cottonelle toilet paper.
My total should be around 38.00
Take off the mega saver discount - 15.00
Take off my coupons and double coupons: -12.40
My grand total or OOP (out of pocket) should be $ 10.60

I'm pretty stocked up on meat and cereal right now, so the only other things I will need to pick up for the week are fresh fruit and some veg's.
I will be making several trips to Owens this week-- I will be stocking the pantry. Plus gatorade is on sale for .50 and with the summer sports schedule coming up-- they will be nice to have. Better to pay .50 at the store than 1.25 at the ball diamonds!!

Tonights the night....

when the Owen's and Marsh ads come out..... :0 :0 ! From what I have read through other blogs (mainly in Michigan) the Owens ad is going to be a great one for stocking up! I've already started to count my coupons and I may have extra's for any takers... I'm sure you all just cannot wait to see my grocery picture LOL!! I will post later on the steals, ah 'em I mean deals, I will be snagging. It is so much fun to walk out of the grocery store knowing that I only paid pennies compared to before walking out thinking, I paid ---- that for only this????????
I never before thought that I would take couponing and finding grocery sales so seriously- I used to think that I did'nt have the time. Now, I make sure I find the time. The money that we save, is the money that we can do EXTRA things with the kids. Plus, it doesnt hurt for them to know how to save a few pennies too.
I will post some of the deals this week - if you see any that I missed, LET ME KNOW! Sharing is good stuff!

Dropping like flies

3 are now down, with 1 saying he will probably be home early because he doesn't feel so well. Landon spiked a fever last night but managed to keep all of his sips of 7-up down. He fell asleep on he couch at 7:30 for a little bit - then finally went to bed around 9pm. He slept fine through the night, but this morning is coughing like he's been a smoker for DECADES!

Alex was next on the list with complaints of a stomach ache around 8 pm. We took a bucket into my room and he fell asleep in my bed around 8:15. I could hear it coming..... as Alex rolled over on to his belly (still asleep) BLAAAAAAHHHH. He woke up quickly, I grabbed the bucket and that little guy just kept going... We got him in the tub to clean up, I grabbed the OUST, Doug threw the sheets in the washer and we put new sheets on our bed. After the bath he fell back asleep. He slept good until 2:20 and 5:00 where he still had remnants that needed OUT.

Nick stayed up a little later, stayed up until 9:30. He gets up 10 minutes later and tells Doug that his stomach hurt. Within the hour, he was in the bathroom, letting it all out. That poor kid was still wretching at 1:20 am, fell asleep, woke up at 7:30 and let loose yet again! I think he got it the worse.

So to start my week, I have 3 kids home from school. 2 are lying on the couch still cradling puke buckets, 1 is starting to feel better and taking a bath. I had to call and reschedule a cleaning that I was to do today and see if Michele wanted to bring Michael a different day or bypass our house all together. I have been spraying OUST over everything and washing my hands like mad. I REALLY_ REALLY don't want to get sick. But like Michele said, at least it's before spring break and everyone got it at once.

1 down... 4 to go?

Well, it's here... Landon has been fighting a cold all week and finally this morning, the flu decided to settle in. He was doing good this morning, watched a little tv, took a bath, got dressed, was excited he was going to go to the Baker Youth Club with his dad and brothers. Had a quick bowl of Reese's Puffs cereal and then.... WHAMM-O..........he threw up all over the dining room floor. Poor thing. Got him to the bathroom to take a bath-- but first...................he does a round with the runs! He gets in the bathtub to get cleaned up and he seemed in pretty good spirits, no fever to speak of. After the tub, he tries a little 7-up and some saltines- he scarfs them down like its been days since he has eaten and the most that has happened is a few burps.

Next he gets the chills and can't get warm, so we get his blanket, pillow, puke bucket and some kleenexs'. He has been laying on the couch ever since and is starting to say he is tired and he is starting to feel warm.
Needless to say, I have sprayed almost every inch of the house with OUST disenfectant and washed up the dining room floor with lysol cleaner. iCrossing my fingers this doesn't last long and it does not spread like wild fire.

Friday, March 28, 2008

No tomato juice - BUT for $ 13.22 I got all of this....

6 Bars of Johnson's buddies soap
2 bottles of Lysol cleaner
2 bottles of Lysol toilet bowl cleaner
2 cans of Lysol bathroom wipes
1 bottle of Lysol spray cleaner
1 can of Oust spray
3 bags of Combos snacks
1 bag of Betty Crocker cookie mix
1 bag of Chex mix
2 2liters of Mountain Dew
1 8 pack of Dora yogurt
2 boxes of Pizza rolls
2 bags of precut salad mix
1 loaf of bread and
1 bag of teddy grahams
All of this came from Meijers. They were having a great dollar days sale and I had some coupons that Meijers DOUBLED! They even doubled the internet coupons. Needless to say, I will not need cleaning supplies for quite sometime-- but when you only pay .04 after sale and coupons for toilet bowl cleaner-- stock up!!
At one time, Meijers had lobbied to be built in the Warsaw area- their request was denied. What a shame! As a kid, I grew up with Meijer in Michigan- it was a fun store back then too- they had a Kids Oasis in the middle of the store- the Oasis is where you could go play while your mom shopped. They had the Purple cow, where you went to get ice-cream cones or floats. There were also the Ponies you could ride for 1 penny-- thankfully, Meijer still has these pony rides at their stores and they still only cost 1 penny. I like Meijer- I just don't like the fact that I have to drive 45 minutes away for their bargains. Sometimes its a wash, what I save in coupons makes up for what I spend in gas. But, if you're ever running over to Ft Wayne or Goshen, stop by Meijer's and check out their sale ad. Or check out their ad online before you head over and make a list. If nothing else, stop and let your kids ride the ponies for a penny!!

Marsh Madness

I had to pick up a few "loss leaders" at our local Marsh grocery store yesterday. I went in to get their HUGE boxes of Cinnamon Toast crunch cereal that was on sale 3 for 10 - but they were gone. :( So instead I picked up:
4 boxes of Reeses Puffs cereal
2 boxes of Raisin Bran
4 boxes of Pizza Rolls
2 SoBe Life waters
1 ctn of sour cream
2 loaves of bread
3 bananas
1 container of Easter Cookies
My total after all sales and coupons came to...................................................... $ 16.64
the bread, cookies and bananas were not on my list- if I had
not of purchased those my total would have been............................................ $ 11.79
I strayed away from my list and it cost me EXTRA $$$-- WHAT was I thinking? Oh yeah, I was thinking... do I want to run all the way across town to pick up 2 loaves of bread while I'm right here... Nick said he wanted some fruit, I'll just pick up a few banana's and... oh-- these Easter cookies are cute- Alex and Michael can have a cookie snack today AND their marked down to .99.......
RULE number : Stick to the list.
All in all though-- not bad, it was like paying the full 3.96 for 5 boxes of cereal and getting the rest for FREE! There wasn't much else at Marsh on sale, so I'm hoping that come tonight when the new ad comes out, I can pick up some more "loss leaders" for my pantry.
Now if someone would put cans of Tomato Juice on sale.......

Mr. Easter Bunny ??

We had a delightful Easter yesterday. The boys enjoyed their baskets, trinkets, money, candy and movies. They even had a little Easter egg hunt downstairs. It was a pleasant day with the kids going outside later in the afternoon to play. Dinner was yummy and having chocolate candy for dessert was just as yummy.
This morning I woke up tired from the sugar rush and realized that the Easter bunny had forgotten to place the kids' big chocolate bunnies in their baskets! WHAAT was he thinking. The boys overheard me telling Doug and now I am to call Mr. Easter Bunny and let him know what he forgot. Alex and Landon asked me to call this morning but I informed them, that I would have to call Santa Claus to get the Easter bunny's phone number. Today after lunch Alex reminded me that I still needed to call- I promptly told Alex that the Easter bunny is still resting from his late night trips and I would leave a message later this afternoon. I think that a quick note of apology and a chocolate bunny is very much deserved for these 3 boys.
